Sterling surges on the euro and US dollar

1 minute read

Sterling has started Easter weekend outperforming the euro and US dollar as risk appetite returns.

An upbeat mood in the markets, in anticipation that the Covid-19 pandemic will soon have ran its course pushed sterling to a one-week high against the US dollar. Sterling also made gains as reports say that PM Boris Johnson’s condition is improving in the ICU.

Closing on a one month high against the euro, sterling has buoyed against a euro stagnant from the failure of Eurozone ministers to find common ground on fiscal stimulus. After a 16-hour video conference, they were unable to agree on a way to provide emergency finances to the countries – particularly Italy – hardest-hit by Coronavirus.
