Imagine how the world could be, so happy together

Imagine how the world could be, so happy together

The International Day of Happiness takes place on 20th March. This year’s theme is ‘happier together’ and examines the importance of community as a contributor to happiness

The day also coincides with the release of a report showing the happiest places in the world. Last year Finland took the top spot, and also within the top five were Norway, Denmark, Iceland and Switzerland. The ranking is based on a range of factors, including population health, quality of life, GDP per capita and personal freedom.

Brits head abroad in search of happiness

Many people choose to move abroad to improve their wellbeing. The warmer climate and slower pace of the Mediterranean, the beauty of Costa Rica or the excitement of Australia all hold appeal for Brits looking for a new home. The happiness report may suggest some new ideas, although it’s worth considering the impact of knowing the language, whether you’ll be able to find work if needed and what the infrastructure is like. Access to healthcare is one example, but also consider how easy it is for friends and family to visit. Affordable, regular flights can make all the difference for regular visits and the chance to pop home and keep in touch with loved ones in the UK.

Embracing your personal community

As the International Day of Happiness aims to highlight, people are happier together. That’s why friends are so important. If you or your friends gets a job abroad, or a place to study at a prestigious foreign university, then good friends will not only celebrate with you, but immediately start planning a visit. You might find that childhood friends start to scatter across the globe, or at least spread their wings by marrying abroad. There is no replacement for old friends, whatever adventure awaits, but there are plenty of ways to keep in touch. Social media and apps such as Skype help you keep up to date and feel a part of the group, wherever you are.

The rewards of friendship show why we’re happier together

We know that friends and family are important. That’s one of the reasons we’ve developed our ‘Refer a Friend’ programme. Tell your loved ones about moneycorp, for international payments that support so many of life’s milestones, and they’ll receive £75 when they exchange £2,500 within 3 months. In many ways, friendship can be its own reward, but as an added incentive, you’ll also receive £75* for each referral you make.

We know that we’re all happier together, so on this International Day of Happiness, share the joy and refer your friends and family. There is no limit to the amount of referrals you can make, so get started today and demonstrate one of the many rewards of a global community.
