Getting a Visa

If you are planning to emigrate to Australia, it’s important that you get the right type of visa. We’ve supplied some basic information to help you identify which visa is right for you.

Generally, Australian visas are grouped into the following ‘categories’:

Skilled visa – For people aged 18-45 years, if you are emigrating to Australia from the UK and have qualifications and experience in an occupation that is currently on the 'Skilled Occupation List'
Family visa – Includes parents, children and orphan relatives of an Australian citizen or permanent resident
Business visa – For people aged 18-55 years who want to set up or manage a business in Australia. Includes people who have a current or recent background in business ownership or investment management
Fiancé/Spouse visa – For people who are married to, or in a relationship with an Australian citizen or permanent resident
Retirement – For people over 55 years old with no dependants (other than a spouse) and have at least A$1 million to transfer to Australia
