Finding a job in Australia

Despite the reports we see in the media, jobs in Australia still exist by the thousand and once you’ve emigrated, finding one shouldn’t be too difficult. The Australian economy has shown resilience throughout the global recession and, as a result, many sectors have continued to grow – leading to additional vacancies.

Finding a job before you move can help your visa application, although finding an employer who will sponsor you can be challenging. Even if you are not sponsored by an employer, you might be eligible for a ‘Skilled Migration Visa’. If your profession is on the 'Skilled Occupation List', you may be eligible to apply for this ‘priority’ visa.

Please note that different occupations are favoured above others in regards to point scoring and processing priorities.

Even if you’re not on the Critical Skills List, your occupation could still get you an extra 15 points on your visa application. The Migration Occupations in Demand List (MODL) outlines occupations that are in short supply in Australia. If your occupation is included in the MODL you are eligible for an extra 15 points on the General Skilled Migration points list. Your application will also receive ‘priority’ processing.
